Job Purpose:
The Director of Junior School is responsible for supervising the programming and instruction in Grades 4 to 6. The Director of Junior School oversees all student behaviour, parent communication and events planned throughout the year (both academic and co-curricular) for students in Grades 4-6.
Specific Accountabilities:
- To oversee teaching and learning in the 4-6 Division
- Direct Report for all teachers in Grades 4-6
- To uphold standards of student conduct in collaboration with teachers and the Assistant Head of School
- Administrative contact for parents relating to issues of student conduct, student relationships, student well-being, academics and social aspects of schooling
- Work in collaboration with the Director of Academics on students of interest, students requiring academic support in the classroom (education plan) and/or LSC support, students with LSPs within the 4-6 division
- Review and understand curriculum planning, ensuring programming is implemented as planned
- Attend classes for observation and evidence gathering of school goals (e.g., classroom instruction to support student engagement in learning)
- Plan division staff meetings for Grades 4-6
- Organize/Oversee/Approve division events, including but not limited to field trips, Science Fair, Speech Showcase
- Read and review division report cards and phone call logs
- Assist in setting goals for student learning, curriculum planning and instruction
- Review Edsby class pages for timely updates
- Oversee and provide feedback on curriculum & assessment for non-core subjects (art, French, Music, Physical Education, Health)
- Assist with special weeks/events (e.g., bullying awareness week, mental health week)
- Special projects as requested by the Head of School
Leadership Competencies, Skills & Knowledge
- The ideal candidate possesses the following leadership competencies: Champion of Change, Influences Culture, Strategic Thinker, Professional Judgement, Relationship Acuity, Emotional Intelligence
- Skilled and experienced in managing and leading a team
- Strong and thorough understanding of current instructional practices, curriculum, growing success document, assessment practices
- Master’s in Education, Additional Qualifications are an asset
